Last week was full of learning experiences and engaging activities both inside and outside the classroom. This week CIS St. Petersburg will be hosting our annual International Week. The following countries will be represented:

On Friday morning, students will organize activities for their countries and visit other countries as well. These activities will continue throughout the day. Parents are encouraged to come at 14:00 on Friday October 20th, to visit the classrooms and for the culminating activities of the week.
В пятницу утром студенты проведут презентации выбранных стран, а также посетят выставки других групп. Данные мероприятия будут продолжаться в течение всего дня. Мы будем рады, если у вас получится присоединиться к нам в пятницу, 20 октября, в 14:00 - вы сможете посетить выставки в классах и принять участие в кульминационных мероприятиях недели.

As part of the International Week, we will also be running our traditional Spanish Language Day this coming Thursday October 19th. We will have seminars, food, and a great Spanish Language atmosphere. Parents are welcome to attend from 15:00 till 15:40. ¡Bienvenidos!

On a different note, I want to extend a big thank you to our parents for supporting the School by sending their children with their uniforms. Some year levels, such as Years 7, 8, and 12 are doing great! Other year levels may need a little more encouragement. Kindly be reminded that wearing a white collared shirt or polo is mandatory during non-PE days, and that wearing clothes with print other than the school logo is not allowed. Thank you again.

Mr. Aleksandr Tsarev (Coordinator, Biology  - Russian Program)

Начало октября выдалось очень насыщенным на разные события, часть из них прошла довольно давно, но я не могу не поделиться ими:

House colors day получился ярким и красочным, не буду подписывать где какой House, думаю, и так всё ясно.

В день учителя ученики попробовали себя в роли учителей, учителя же познали силу юмора в презентациях для урока:

Всё больше учеников приходит отточить своё мастерство на волейболе по средам:

Социальные игры в библиотеке также набирают популярность (фото прикладывать не буду, личности наших мафиози засекречены😊 )

У учеников отлично получается сочетать техническую оснащённость кабинета и врожденный талант к рисованию, чтобы объяснять те или иные биологические явления:

Как выглядят плоские черви?

И многое другое.

С year7 перешли к изучению бактерий, вскоре состоится большая ролевая игра “суд над бактериями”, в прошлом году завершившаяся блестящей победой бактериального адвоката Ивана.

В year8 рассматриваем взаимосвязи процессов дыхания и фотосинтеза.

Year9, как недавно заметил один известный политик, “уже полгода изучают разных червей”.

Year10 вздрагивают от резких звуков под действием ориентировочного рефлекса, а потом изучают, как он работает.

Year11 и 12 постигают сложности молекулярного уровня на грани биологии и химии.

Ну а year13 заняты более глобальными вопросами - особенностями биосферы.

С нетерпением ждём предстоящие мероприятия: Международную неделю и Осенний фестиваль. Вы уже выбрали себе костюм на 27 октября? Пора поторопиться! :)

Mr. Aleksei Kalimullin (Cambridge Mathematics, Russian Program Mathematics and Physics)

Year 10 Mathematics class have been doing very well in their start of IGCSE course. Students are mastering their skills in topics related to Numbers, learning how to use scientific calculators efficiently and practice solving questions from past papers.

Year 7 Mathematics class have been studying Integers and Expressions this term and have done really well! There is an explicit progress in understanding and applying new concepts to problem solving. Student are eager to not only solve problems from the textbook, but to attempt challenges from external resources.

Уроки математики в 6 классе проходят увлекательно и очень быстро! Ребята очень “выросли” в устном счете с начала года, хорошо решают задачи в уме. За эту четверть ребята уже освоили тему “Отношения, пропорции, проценты” и научились решать блок задач на теорию вероятности и перебор вариантов. Сейчас уверенно изучают тему “Целые числа”, накапливая багаж умений и навыков, которые пригодятся в будущем на уроках алгебры и геометрии в старших классах.

Уроки геометрии в 8 классе проходят увлекательно, благодаря разнообразию выполняемых работ: решаются задачи из учебника на тему “Четырехугольники” и активно используются задачи на готовых чертежах, которые позволяют оттачивать навыки на скорость.

На уроках алгебры в 9 классе ребята учились решать системы уравнений с двумя переменными и применять это умение в решении задач из реальных ситуаций.

7 класс начал свое знакомство с курсом физики: ребята узнали, что такое вещество, в каких состояниях вещество пребывает и как появились измерительные приборы. В результате совместной работы учителей физики и биологии на одном из уроков ребята смогли наблюдать броуновское движение в смеси воды и молока.

Учащиеся 8 класса активно изучают раздел, посвященный тепловым явлениям.

В 9 и 10 классах на уроках физики изучаем механические законы движения тел и решаем задачи. Очень удобно, что на англоязычных курсах кембриджской программы ребята проходят или уже проходили те же темы, это сильно помогает осваивать материал.

Хочу отметить, как я рад стать частью коллектива CIS Saint Petersburg, учащиеся и коллеги сделали много для того, чтобы я чувствовал себя как дома на новом месте. Спасибо всем огромное!

Mr. Aleksey Golubyev (Chemistry – Russian Program)

В этом учебном году у обучающихся у10 появился новый предмет естественнонаучного цикла "Химия". Поэтому на первых занятиях ребята знакомились с кабинетом химии, с предметом изучения химии, с ее целями и задачами, а также узнали какую роль она играет в жизни человека.
А также ребята у10 уже успели выполнить две практические работы, на которых они изучили правила техники безопасности, химическое оборудование, его применение и правила обращения с ним. Знают формы существования химических элементов классификацию веществ, смесей, способы разделения их, типы кристаллических решёток. Выучили первые 23 химических элемента.
Научились решать задачи на тему "Закон постоянства состава веществ".
Ребята у11, продолжают знакомиться с новыми классификациями химических реакций по признакам: "Изменение степени окисления химических элементов в составе исходных веществ и продуктов реакции", "Тепловой эффект", "Направление". Научились определять окислитель и восстановитель, расставлять коэффициенты с помощью электронного баланса, решать задачи по термохимическому уравнения, составлять термохимическое уравнение по условию задачи, знают что такое скорость химических реакций, какие факторы влияют на неё и могут продемонстрировать опыт, а также что такое химическое равновесие и при каких условиях оно может смещаться.

Mr. Graham Jenkins (History)

All is proceeding as expected.

The year 7s are a breath of fresh air, and I’m enjoying the beginning of our journey in history. They’re currently learning about the medieval period, and the arrival of invading nations in the wake of the collapse of the Roman Empire.

Year 8s are working on the split in the Catholic church, and the wives of Henry VIII will be next.

We have a new student, and a more energetic dynamic to the lessons, which I’m looking forward to next term.

Year 9 is coming into its own, too, and we’re now producing some encouraging work: I hope to have them doing group projects next term.

The IGCSE classes are likewise hitting their stride, and I have great optimism about next term: year 10 has just produced some quality posters about the League of Nations, and Year 11 is working hard on their depth study.

Year 13 has continued its great work from last year, and we’re coming along nicely.

Mr. Gregory Alm (English, Literature, and Global Perspectives)

The Year 13 English Language class is nearing completion of the first unit, Language Change Over Time. Students have examined the various changes in spelling, grammar, sentence structure, diction, etc... in the English language from the Early Modern English period (the time of Shakespeare) to Present Day English. Furthermore, they have examined by numerous linguists such as David Crystal, Sharon Goodman, and Michael Halliday that explain the reasons why these changes occur.

In Year 13 English Literature, the class is analysing an anthology of poetry by Sujata Bhatt.  Born in India, raised in America, and currently living in Germany, Bhatt uses a contemplative tone snd unusual metaphor to discuss themes ranging from the relationship between scientific inquiry and spirituality to the Indian Independence movement to the immigrant experience.

The Year 12 English Literature class is analysing an anthology of poetry by American author Maya Angelou. Angelou’s work focuses on themes of female self-empowerment, the Black experience in America, love, and reflections on her life experiences.

Year 11 English Literature is reading Tennessee William’s play, A Streetcar Named Desire. The play is an example of Southern Gothic literature, in which emotionally damaged characters navigate life in 1940’s New Orleans, a city which has also experienced decay since before the US Civil War.

Finally, the Year 11 Global Perspectives class has begun its first task of the IGCSE examination – the Individual Research Report. Students have selected their topic, set a research question, and begun researching their topic extensively.

Ms. Liubov Kaporskaya (Russian [RAL] and English [EAL])

Three of our students, namely Mikhail Y11, Igor Y11, and Veronika Y10, have almost finished reading Leo Tolstoy's "Boyhood" in Russian. They have put in a great deal of effort and dedication into this task, and as a culmination of their hard work, they will be presenting their findings to the class.

In addition to this, we have also had some remarkable achievements in specific areas of Russian language learning. Sophia Y11 has been concentrating on plurals in Russian, while Mariza Y10 has been working diligently on numbers and grammatical phrases. Moreover, Yakov Y9 has been exploring the intricacies of Russian spelling rules. Their commitment to these topics is commendable, and they are eager to showcase their progress.

Not only have we seen tremendous growth in these areas, but also our students in Years 7, 8, and 12 have been focusing on crucial aspects of Russian language learning. Specifically, they have been covering numbers, age, and verb conjugation.

Furthermore, Erica Y7 has taken on the challenge of studying Russian language cases. The mastery of cases is a vital skill in the Russian language, and Erica has displayed great determination in understanding and applying this intricate aspect of grammar.

Ms. Marina Vorobyeva (Physical Education)

This academic year students started with athletics and fitness during PE lessons. Most lessons in September were held outside where students worked on developing and improving their strength, stamina and endurance. By the end of September Secondary students have completed fitness field test. In October all secondary students have started to learn and refresh basketball rules, regulations, tactics and skills. Upper secondary students are playing different variations of the game, involving 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 players. In the meantime, lower secondary continues to practice and improve their basketball drills, such us dribbling, passing and shooting.

On teachers’ day some of the secondary students from Y10 (Vika and Katy) helped with a dance lesson for Y1-Y2 and they did a great job of conducting a very well-designed lesson.

Ms. Victoria Damanskaya (Computer Science and ICT)

Secondary school students this semester are faced with the challenge of learning about various aspects of a computer system.

Students in Year 7 and Year 8 spent more time learning about operating system, data storage and learned to evaluate computer systems based on various criteria.

Year 9 students studied the binary number system, learned where and why it is used, learned to add and convert binary numbers and convert storage units in order to better understand how a computer works.

Ms. Yulia Kulik (History – Russian Program)

В этом месяце Year 7 отправился в увлекательное путешествие в мир истории. Что изучает эта наука, какие у неё есть помощницы, как жили первобытные люди? На эти вопросы мы пытались ответить. Познакомились с культурой первобытных людей, узнали, чем животное отличается от человека, попробовали себя в роли составителей кроссворда по изученной теме. Каждое занятие нас сопровождал” Фред”, который рассказывал о жизни в прошлом. Теперь мы знаем, во что верили древние люди, чем занимались и как жили. Начинаем изучать становление цивилизации.

Кто завершил объедение Московских земель?  Кто такой регент? Что происходило с 1533 по 1584? На эти вопросы искал ответ Year 9 на уроках истории. Мы успели поговорить о внутренней политике Елены Глинской, разобраться во введении единой денежной единицы (А Вы знали, что до неё был московский и новгородский рубль, который обладал разным весом). Избранная рада, отмена системы кормлений, устранение соперников на престол, отъезд в Александровскую слободу — это и многое другое ребята уже освоили. Готовимся к дебатам по политике первого царя.

По истории Year 8 осторожно ступает на Русь. Мы подробно изучали греческие колонии на территории юга нашей страны, поговорили о хазарах, булгарах, наших будущих противников на южных границах. Открыли для себя удивительный мир других названий привычных нам географических объектов (Например, что Чёрное море давным-давно называли Понт Эвксинский). Ребята активно учатся работать с письменными историческими источниками, из которых и узнают о призвании варягов, событиях правления Рюрика, Олега, Игоря.

Политика- дело тонкое. Не на словах, а на деле убедились в этом ученики Year 11. На протяжении месяца мы учились различать формы гос-ва и их признаки, говорили о монархии и её видах, теократии, приводить актуальные примеры из современности. Интересным аспектом изучения данной темы стало понятие “гражданин” и “гражданство”. Политические режимы, особенности, поиски примеров из истории — вот, что мы делали в этом месяце.

Личностью не рождаются, личностью становятся. Такой лейтмотив был на уроках обществознания на протяжении всего месяца у Year 8. Мы успели поговорить про потребности человека, разделить их на несколько групп, обсудить способности и таланты, поговорить о наших мечтах, а также порассуждать на тему “всегда ли возможности неограниченные”?

Year 10 на уроках обществознания изучает чем человек отличается от животного, какие бывают сферы общественной жизни. Также узнали о традиционном типе общества, индустриальном и постиндустриальном. Поговорили и о том, какие формы преобразования общества бывают. Теперь нас ждёт удивительный мир духовной сферы жизни общества.

From the Classroom

Mr. Donovan Kennedy (Business, Economics, Geography)

We have had an exciting start to the year with students hitting the ground running. The Student Council held their first meetings and discussed house events, the international week, and the winter concert. It is wonderful to see our students grow as leaders.

The new Business Studies students have learned the operations, costs, and revenue of the vending machine business and the new students have all played their part in helping.

Teacher’s Day was filled with laughter and joy between students and teachers. Thank you to all students who made an excellent effort to prepare for and teach lessons. With term tests approaching, it is important to review what has been learned to be prepared.

Mr. Juan J Cardenas (Mathematics)

This week in Mathematics, A-Level students are digging deeper into integration techniques, including u-substitution, partial fractions, and integration by parts. Year 12 students have finished their work with functions and have started their studies in Analytical Geometry with circles and lines. Year 11 students are stepping up their pace with their work with graphs, including distance-time and speed-time graphs. Good luck in their assessments!

Mr. Kori Sickles (Science, Biology, Chemistry)

Year 10 Science has good start this year.  Our first topic looked at the characteristics of living things and the comparison between plant and animal cells.  We have continuously been looking to build our microscope use skills as we have taken a closer look at both plant and animal cells.  Now we are exploring how things move in and out of cells.  We started by looking at diffusion and what factors affect the rate of diffusion.  Now our experimental focus is on what factors affect the rate of osmosis using potato cells.

The Year 11 Science team started off the year by looking at the structure of plant cells and the process of photosynthesis.  We explored some the factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis experimentally, particularly light intensity.  Now we are looking at how substances move through places.  Our latest experiment explored the process of transpiration using homemade potometers.

The A-level Biology teams have been quite busy.  The Year 12 team has focused on the structures of cells and their functions, while exploring the types of structures plant, animal and bacterial cells have in common and ones which are different. Now we are are taking a closer look at the structures and functions of different biological molecules. Team Year 13 did some quick review of cellular respiration and conducted a few experiments using yeast to start the year.  We just finished up our closer look at the process of photosynthesis by attempting several different methods to measure the rate of photosynthesis.

The A-level Chemistry teams have also been quite busy.  Team Year 12 have been working on building the foundation of our atomic understanding, with a closer look at the organization of electrons.  Now we are building our foundational understanding of chemical equations, focusing on molar ratios and net ionic equations. Year 13 started off with some review of lattice energy and Born-Haber cycles.  We recently finished up our study of electrochemistry, focusing on standard electrode potentials.   We used copper electrolysis to calculate the charge per mole and were able to get a value near the accepted value and we finished the week comparing the products of saltwater solutions (dilute vs. concentrated).

Mr. Matthew Lyons (Mathematics, Science, Physics)

It honestly feels as though the students never disappeared; such is the way they have returned to classes – with the same motivation and energy that we became accustomed to last academic year. Special mention should go to the new members of each class who have integrated and settled in so smoothly – it's difficult to believe that they were not a part of the school for longer than a month!

Mathematics for years 8 and 9 has been focusing on some basic skills which the students may have forgotten to practice over the summer, such as finding squares, roots, cubes and cube roots, recognising primes and surds, constructing algebraic expressions and writing numbers in standard form.

Science in Key Stage 3 has already seen some hands-on experience. Year 7 have been learning about cells and organ systems, which gave the opportunity to dissect a lung and learn about the different tissues it contains and how it functions. Year 8 and year 9 have both been exploring different attributes and characteristics of plants, including an experiment to investigate the effects of different levels of sunlight, water and carbon dioxide on the growth of plants.

Year 12 Physics sped through the first couple of chapters of the textbook as we number crunched our way through S.I. units, kinematics and dynamics. In fact, the dynamic between the members of the class has proven to be very positive and amicable, which bodes well for the future as the students will need to support each other though more challenging topics.

Ms. Natalia Nilova (Russian Language and Literature - Russian Program)

На уроках русского языка в year 7 ребята втягиваются в процесс обучения в средней школе. Это для них пока не очень тяжело: у нас идет активное повторение изученного в начальной школе материала.

Учащиеся year 10 закончили этап повторения и приступили к изучению «сложных предложений». Также они попробовали написать одну часть экзаменационной работы - аудиоизложение.  Для первого раза получилось неплохо. 

На уроках литературы year 12 заканчивает изучение романа «Отца и дети» и размышляют над вопросом: а каким был бы Евгений Базаров, появись он сейчас, в 20-х годах XXI века?

Mr. Ruslan Yanbaev (Russian Language and Literature - Russian Program)

На уроках литературы в Year 7  ребята привыкают к коллективной работе. Пробуют анализировать образы литературных героев на примере сказки «Царевна-лягушка». Еще по этой сказке ребята писали сочинение на тему: «Мой любимый литературный герой», разгадывали кроссворд и выполняли викторины.

Учащиеся Year 8 на уроках русского языка уже полностью прошли раздел «Повторение изученного в 5 классе» и показали отличные результаты. Теперь нас ждет большой раздел, посвященный морфологии различных частей речи. Начинаем мы с имени существительного. Многое будет детям знакомо, однако с некоторыми морфологическими признаками придется познакомиться впервые.

На уроках литературы Year 8 полностью прошли раздел, посвященный устному народному творчеству. Теперь ребята изучают творчество Александра Сергеевича Пушкина. Они уже познакомились с его лирикой, рассказывали стихи наизусть. Теперь детям предстоит проанализировать своё первое «серьёзное» произведение в школе – роман «Дубровский»

Year 9 на уроках русского языка занимается повторением изученного в 6 классе. Многое было забыто за лето, однако на уроках мы быстро восстанавливаем всю нужную информацию.

На уроках литературы традиционно работаем с фольклором. Особое внимание уделяем былинам новгородского и киевского цикла. Факультативно изучаем карело-финский эпос «Калевала» и древнейшее крупное произведение французской литературы «Песнь о Роланде».

Mr. Thomas Kenny (EAL and Global Perspectives)

So this year has started strongly due to the combination of a long rest and an extended, warm summer. In global perspectives, years 7, 8 and 9 have launched themselves into projects connected to health and wellbeing. After researching their chosen topics- ranging from phone addiction to teenage obesity- our learners created and conducted their very own surveys. In order to do this, we visited various teachers’ lessons and surveyed the opinions of their students. We then analysed said information, and are currently working on presentations. This will be the first graded work of the year, so let’s wait with baited breath!

As for EAL, as usual, the work is extremely varied, being based on individual students’ personal academic goals. This semester, such goals include spelling, business English, and learning phrasal verbs, amongst others. The realisation of these goals will be known closer to the end of the semester.

Tomasz Bethell (English and Literature)

Greetings students, parents, and friends, it’s good to be corresponding with you again in our community newsletter. I’m finding my second year even more enjoyable than the first because I’m having to spend less time getting to know students and we’ve been able to jump right in to the new school year’s curriculum.

For year 7, it’s their first experience as secondary students but I’m hugely impressed with their English level and commitment to learning – well done Miss Michelle! This group features new faces too (Maria, Rodion) who have added enthusiasm and international experiences to the group.

The year 8 group is happy to welcome a new Hungarian/British student, Levi, to our small but strong class. We are halfway through George Orwell’s iconic novel Animal Farm, and I’m happy to say that it’s very much a mutual learning experience, as the students have an expertise on Soviet history that I lack. The parallels they make between the characters and their historical counterparts prove relevant and interesting.

In the Russian program, I’m so fortunate to have two wonderful young scholars, Vadim and Alisa. They complement each other well, learn quickly, and have made significant gains in their short time here. Another new face, Rostislav, has also been a welcome addition, and he brings a great sense of warmth, and humour to the group.

The year 9 group has grown in size and ability thanks to some new students and added maturity, too. We are finishing up a unit on travel writing at the moment before embarking on a spookier (and more literature-heavy) unit on Gothic fiction – just in time for Halloween.

Finally, I’ve very much enjoyed meeting the new IGCSE year 10 literature students and we are diligently turning the pages of Harper Lee’s powerful novel, To Kill a Mockingbird.  Despite the challenge of reading literature in a second language, I am proud of this group for their commitment to pushing through when things seem hard.

Teacher’s Day 

We had a fun and fabulous Teacher’s Day last week! Students from Secondary came to Primary classes to lead lessons and assist with students, needing more English support. Upper Primary students asked to lead lessons in Early Years classes. It was a great opportunity for the older students to show leadership and creativity, and the younger students enjoyed having guest teachers.

На прошлой неделе у нас прошел веселый и замечательный День учителя! Учащиеся средней и старшей школы посетили начальные классы, чтобы провести уроки и помочь с ученикам, нуждающимися в дополнительной поддержке по английскому языку. Mr. Carlos Loreiro (Spanish)

We have started Spanish with many challenges. In Y7 we have practiced how to introduce ourselves: saying our name, where we are from, what kind of people we are, if we have siblings, pets... In Y8 we have remembered our past holidays as an excuse to use the past tense. In Y9 we have talked about tastes, cinema, sports, leisure activities... Y10 and Y11 have begun to work with two tenses from the past, and to differentiate their uses, talking about trips, hotel reservations... Y13 has practiced with the past A level Writing and Reading exams.

Ms. Irina Tuzakova (Mathematics – Russian program)

Начало года проходит активно. Ребята сразу погрузились в изучение математики - нужно успеть разобраться со многими темами за достаточно короткий период. Yr7 восстанавливают свои навыки, углубляя свои знания. Yr9 знакомятся сразу с тремя новыми предметами: алгеброй, геометрией и статистикой. Yr10 ждет сложный год - программа этого года обучения самая сложная в курсе математики 5-9 кл. Yr11 и yr13 готовятся к экзаменам, проведены входные работы, определен фронт работы. Yr12 начал изучение предмета “Алгебра и начала математического анализа” и раздела “Стереометрия” в курсе геометрии. Ребята замотивированы и стараются разобраться во всех тонкостях красивейшей науки - математики.

Mr. Keegan Watkins (English and Geography)

The English language classes have had a busy start to the year! In year 12, students are currently looking at the main terminology related to language analysis while also diving into imaginative writing. Years 10 and 11 have been working on comprehension skills, with narrative and descriptive tasks on the side. Year 7 geography students are now fully immersed in the concepts that geographers study and have been looking at lines of latitude and longitude. In the year 9 class, we have been looking at earthquakes, volcanoes, and the concept of continental drift.

Ms. Nadezhda Soboleva (Music)

This September was full of fun! We are having discussions about music, we are playing games, listening to music and we are already prepared to study the music program for the future concerts and events. Also, у3-у9 are currently starting to sing and play Spanish songs for the upcoming international week. The list of our musicians is getting bigger; however, I’m still looking for new participants to contribute to the music life of our school!

Ms. Nina Ditiatina (Art)

The students started exploring the first element of Art - Line. We studied the works of artists, who worked with lines and got acquainted with the book graphics of Russian and American artists and we learned from each other. All classes approached creatively, they carefully developed works. The drawings turned out to be remarkably interesting. Well done.

Mr. Vladimir Reshetnyak (Geography – Russian program)

С учениками из Year 7 мы только начали свое путешествие, но уже разобрали принципиальные вопросы в географии. Узнали про виды вращения планеты и ее место в Солнечной системе, познакомились с учеными, которые внесли огромный вклад в развитие науки. На данном этапе мы начали подробное изучение такой темы как: “Карта и глобус”.
 
 

С ребятами из Year 8 мы больше недели тренировали свои навыки в определении географических координат. Разбирали различие между параллелями и меридианами, широтой и долготой и научились очень точно определять координаты. Сейчас мы перешли к изучению такой темы как: “Времена года”, в рамках этой темы мы очень подробно изучим причины и следствия вращения наше планеты и запомним важные даты, в которые происходят очень весомые для всего мира изменения как угла падения солнечных лучей, так и изменении продолжительности дня и ночи.
 
 

С Year 9 на данный момент проходим комплексное повторение некоторых тем, с более глубокой теорией, начали с литосферы. Далее будут атмосфера и гидросфера. А уже совсем скоро мы начнем комплексное изучение материков. Под комплексной работой я подразумеваю следующее: изучение истории развития материка, истории изучения материка, рельеф, полезные ископаемые, водные объекты, климат и многое-многое другое.
 
 

С Year 10 мы говорим про географическое положение России, про ее соседей и политико-экономическое, а также экономико-географическое положение. Ребята выучили и сдали столицы стран, которые имеют пограничное положение с Россией. Далее мы будем изучать такие темы как: “Природные условия и ресурсы” и “Часовые пояса и области”.
 
 

С ребятами из Year 11 мы изучили и повторили географическое положение России, про ее соседей и политико-экономическое, а также экономико-географическое положение. Ребята выучили и сдали столицы стран, которые имеют пограничное положение с Россией и перешли к изучению истории формирования нашей страны.
 
 

С ребятами из Year 12 мы изучаем международные организации и некоторые из ребят уже представили свои презентации и доклады перед классами. Помимо международных связей мы также затронули политическую карту мира и этапы ее становления.

Dear Families,  

Temperatures have been up and down lately. This week, we have a potential for more rain, so please make sure your child has a rain jacket and appropriate shoes.  

Cold and flu season has begun in earnest, and I need to stress the importance of keeping our community of students and teachers healthy.  

If your child is starting to get ill (sniffles or coughing and sneezing, for example), please keep them home to avoid passing any illnesses to other students or to teachers.  

Additionally, if your child has been ill, please send them back to school only if they are completely well and able to go outside for recess.

В последнее время наблюдаются резкие скачки температуры воздуха. На этой неделе есть большая вероятность дождливой погоды, поэтому, пожалуйста, убедитесь, что у вашего ребенка есть непромокаемая верхняя одежда и подходящая обувь.  

Сезон простуды и гриппа уже начался, и я должна подчеркнуть важность сохранения здоровья сообщества студентов и учителей CIS.  

Если ваш ребенок заболевает (например, появляются такие симптомы как насморк, кашель или чихание), пожалуйста, оставьте его дома, чтобы не передать вирус другим ученикам или учителям.

I want to thank you for your interest in our Back-to-School-Night event. It was refreshing to see parents and teachers interact and set the expectations for this academic year.

Last week, our students chose their class representatives and thus formed this semester’s Student Council. I want to thank both the President Iana I. and the Vice-President Maya O. for welcoming the new members of the council with encouraging words. This is an example of good leadership. Well done!

As part of our security standards, we performed a fire drill last week. I was happy to see that the results were good, and that students and staff knew what to do and how to do it. Thank you for your commitment!

Back to School Night – Thursday at 16:00 

Please join us at school to meet your teachers and learn a bit about school life. The format is as follows: 

1. Welcome speech by Mr Fabio in the Assembly Hall (start at 16:00) 

2. Introduction of Specialist Teachers  

3. Parents are asked to go with their class teachers to their respective classrooms for a short presentation for that class.  

You are welcome to bring your children with you to the presentation. Or, if you wish, you can leave your child in our aftercare group.

Dear Families, 

Welcome to the 2023-2024 Academic Year! We are all thrilled to see everyone returning from summer breaks and happy to see so many new faces. 

First Week in Primary 

Students spent the week getting settled into their classrooms and routines. They were assessed in English and math to determine reading levels, writing skills, and math knowledge and skills. These assessments give teachers a baseline from which to work as we set learning goals. 

This week, all students and parents were entered into Edupage. New parents should have received their passwords. Please contact the school if you have not yet received yours. 

Edupage Training Session – September 18 at 16:00 

Edupage is our main tool for communicating about all aspects of school life. Please join us after the school day for a training session on how to use various functions of Edupage. Although the session is aimed mainly at new parents, all are welcome. 

Primary Back to School Night – September 21 

We invite you to join us after school on Thursday, September 21, to meet your teachers and to learn a bit about them and about what your child’s year of learning will look like.

We have started the school year with impetus and good energy. Our students have undergone initial English language testing to better support them in reaching their goals during the academic year. We have modified our rules during the breaks to allow students to choose between blowing-off steam at the playground or quietly relaxing or studying in one of the quiet zones.

Мы начали учебный год с воодушевлением и позитивной энергией. Наши студенты прошли вводное тестирование по английскому языку — это поможет нам более эффективно поддержать учеников на пути   чтобы лучше помочь им в достижения академических целей в течение учебного года. A sincere reminder about the vending machine at school, available to secondary students only, as part of the students' Business Studies project.

Напоминаем, что пользоваться вендинговым автоматом (проект наших студентов в рамках курса Business Studies)  в школе  разрешается исключительно ученикам средней и старшей школы.

We request for you to kindly be aware of how much cash students are given to take to school, as the vending machine accepts cash only. The machine offers healthy and unhealthy snacks, and we will be running a healthy eating and lifestyle campaign through the Student Council to help students make better choices. We have students' best interests at heart, but we also need your cooperation to ensure they are not using the vending machine too frequently. 

Убедительно просим вас быть в курсе количества наличности, которую учащиеся берут с собой в школу, поскольку автомат принимает только наличные деньги.  В аппарате размещены как полезные, так и не относящиеся к здоровому питанию перекусы. I am organizing an introductory session for those parents who are new to EduPage this coming Monday, September 18, at 16:00 hrs. If you are new to this platform, I hope to see you there.

Dear Families, 

Last week, we held a sports event for our younger students. Students had tons of fun, running in relay races, and getting stamps for activities at activity stations. 

This week, we’ve begun adding extra rehearsals to bring the various performance and technical aspects of our Summer Concert together. It’s coming up fast! 

Chess Tournament 

Last week, we were invited by our Festivalnaya campus to join a chess tournament that ran for two days. The first day was an elimination round to create our combined team. The second day was our participation in the UchimZnaem chess tournament, where our team won 3rd place! 

Huge congratulations to our Primary tournament participants: Elisey Kulichenko and Ivan Feliksov!!  

Cinderella 

Our Year 5 class put on a play of Cinderella last week. Parents of Year 5 students joined the rest of the Primary classes to watch the show. Year 5 was amazing!  

Sports Day for Upper Primary (Years 3-6) 

When: June 9, from 10:00 – 12:00 

Where: CIS campus, outside 

What: A scavenger hunt with clues, activities, and puzzle pieces.

Students will participate in House Teams. They should come in sport clothes and a tee-shirt the color of their House.

На прошлой неделе в школе прошло спортивное мероприятие для наших младших учеников. Они получили массу удовольствия, участвуя в эстафетах и получая специальные штампы за участие в веселых соревнованиях.

Шахматный турнир 

На прошлой неделе кампус «Фестивальная» пригласил нас принять участие в шахматном турнире, который длился два дня. В первый день прошел отборочный раунд, где была сформирована наша объединенная команда. На второй день мы приняли участие в шахматном турнире «УчимЗнаем», где наша команда заняла 3 место! 

Поздравляем участников турнира из начальной школы: Елисея Куличенко и Ивана Феликсова!!  

Золушка 

На прошлой неделе учащиеся Year 5  поставили спектакль «Золушка». Их родители присоединились к классам начальной школы, чтобы посмотреть спектакль. Ученики Year 5 большие молодцы! 

День спорта для Upper Primary (Year 3-6) 

Когда: 9 июня, с 10:00 до 12:00 

Где: рядом с кампусом CIS 

Что: поиск предметов (с подсказками, кусочками головоломки и различными заданиями).

Ученики будут распределены по командам в соответствии с их Домом. Они должны быть в спортивной одеждой и футболке, цвет которой соотвествует со цветом их Дома.

Dear School Community,

These past two weeks have been incredibly demanding and filled with intensity. The completion of the Cambridge exams marks a significant milestone, reflecting the tremendous efforts and unwavering commitment of both our students and teachers. Congratulations to everyone involved! However, our journey is not yet complete as students still have the OGE and EGE exams ahead of them. Their persistent efforts and dedication are bound to yield the positive outcomes they truly deserve.

I'm delighted to share that our Secondary students, under the guidance of Mr. Kennedy and Ms. Liuba, are in the final stages of establishing the student council for the upcoming year. The student council serves as a democratically-elected representative body, empowering students to voice their opinions and drive meaningful change within our school community. I urge you to motivate your child to actively participate in the council and extend support to their fellow classmates.

On May 22, CIS CEO Mr. Ilnaz Mustafin met with our Upper Secondary students. They had the opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions on how to improve the school and its community. I want to thank our students for their involvement in the school and for their well-crafted questions.

Our students, both from Primary and Secondary schools also participated in an intercampus online chess tournament against our sister campus CIS Moscow. The 10 best players represented both campuses in the interschool online chess tournament “Knight move” that took place between private schools in Moscow and Hospital school project “UchimZnaem”, winning the third place in the team competition. Those intense chess matches that our students play during the lunch and morning breaks did pay off. Well done! A big thank you to Ms. Liuba for her leading role in helping our students take part in this wonderful experience.

Учащиеся как начальной, так и старшей школы также приняли участие в межкампусном онлайн-турнире по шахматам против родственного кампуса CIS в Москве. 10 лучших игроков представляли оба кампуса в турнире «Ход конем» (который проходил между частными школами Москвы и проектом Больничной школы «УчимЗнаем») и заняли третье место в командном зачете. Те напряженные шахматные партии, которые наши ученики играли во время обеденных и утренних перерывов, дали свои плоды. Отличная работа! Большое спасибо мс Любе за главную роль в том, что наши ученики приняли участие в таком замечательном приключении.

It is also important to note that despite the active school life that we have at CIS, security is a top priority. This week our students took part in our fire drill. We practiced our building evacuation procedures and we saw that we are getting pretty good at them. Fire and lockdown drills are common practice at CIS and help us ensure that your kids are safe. Thank you to the parents involved in the drill for their compliance with the exercise and their support.

This is the last sprint of the year. Thank you for bringing your children to school and for keeping the learning going. Year 12 students have begun their A2-Level topics, while year 11 students are still finishing their exams and final projects. Years 7-10 are finalizing their assessments as well. All grade levels are getting ready for the Summer Concert. We are almost there!

Finally, I want to also give a big thank you to the parent community. Mr. Carlos (Spanish)

This week, Y11 and Y12 students have finished the official Cambridge exams for the Spanish subject. Congratulations on the effort! Y7 have been practicing how to order in a cafeteria and have practiced the verb to want. Y8 have learned how to ask for directions to different places in the city, using the imperative form. In Y9 we have made a virtual trip through Madrid and Valencia. We have known the most emblematic places of these two Spanish cities and practiced the superlative and the irregular forms of the preterit. Y10 has been working on the physical aspect, using the verbs to be and to have. We have also talked about shopping and leisure activities. Y7-Y9 have also been practicing a song in Spanish for the summer concert. Well done!

Mr. Alm (English, Literature, Global Perspectives)

After several stressful weeks, Year 13 English Language/Linguistics, Year 12 English Literature, Year 11 English Literature, and Year 11 Global Perspectives students have completed all their work and assessments for their Portfolios. The students’ work and effort throughout the year should be rewarded in the marks they receive from the Cambridge International examiners.

In the coming weeks, students will engage in extension work beyond the course curriculum. For example, in year 12 English Literature, we will examine acclaimed, classic films. We will analyse similarities and differences of techniques are used in these mediums to create meaning.

Mr. Aleksandr (Biology – Russian Program)

Май - традиционно насыщенный событиями месяц.

Этот год не стал исключением: прошел пригласительный этап всероссийской олимпиады школьников “Сириус”. Мс Ирина Тузакова организовала участие наших ребят в этой олимпиаде по большому количеству предметов. Несколько недель можно было тут и там увидеть учеников, сдающих онлайн тесты олимпиады в разных помещениях с очень разной атмосферой:

Продолжаются еженедельные тренировки по волейболу с учителями по средам, всё больше учеников присоединяются к нам и совершенствуют свой уровень игры в волейбол:

И это приносит свои плоды! 17 мая состоялась третья, последняя встреча школ-партнёров в этом учебном году. В этот раз гостей принимала школа №440.  Команды учеников из трёх школ сыграли несколько дружеских матчей, победителем в каждом из которых стала наша команда. Поздравляем победителей!

19 мая по предложению Мс Кристины Серавниной была проведена экскурсия в музей оптики ИТМО. Благодаря помощи Андрея Пригульного в организации нам удалось взять с собой не только студентов российской программы, но и других желающих из классов у11 и у12. Экскурсия была полезна и для дальнейшего изучения физики, и для общего понимания работы глаз и зрительной коры мозга.

Буквально в конце этой недели, начинаются первые ЕГЭ и ОГЭ. Важно помнить, что к экзаменам надо готовиться, но не в последнюю ночь перед экзаменом. Это время лучше уделить отдыху для мозга - здоровому сну. С собой нужно брать паспорт и черную гелевую ручку (а лучше две). Удачи сдающим!

Mr. Watkins (English, Geography, and Global Perspectives)

We hit the ground running at the start of the final term due to final examinations being written and portfolios being completed for years 11 and 12. Well done to all students for their hard work and focus on their English examinations! The year 10 English class has been working on argumentative and discursive writing. The year 9 geography class has started their final unit for the year on global warming and is currently preparing for their term test on the previous unit (the Middle East). The year 10 GP class is finalising their individual essays for the year and conducting research based on narrative and numerical types of data.

Mr. Sickles (Science)

Our Years 12 and 13 Biology groups have kept busy with final preparations for exams, finishing them off this week.  Year 11 scientists finished their exams and have been exploring different aspects of reaction rate using some new reactions.  We finished the week with a timing competition using the iodine clock reaction.  The Year 10 team has been exploring the impact forces have one matter, focusing on Hooke’s law.  We will finish up with pressure and then move on to exploring acids and bases.

Ms. Liuba (Russian as a Foreign Language)

This week, Year 7 students finished “In Town” unit with the final test and a little poster-project “My ideal city” where they drew and described their vision of a perfect town. Now they can talk about different places of interest not only in Saint-Petersburg but anywhere in the world.

Year 10 continued to read “The History of a Town”, novel by Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin as well as revised parts of a sentence. This week, we brushed up on the topic of different adverbials and modifiers.

This is the last conference of the year. It is a great opportunity to understand more about how your child is doing in school and to look at the progress they’ve made over the course of the year.

A separate letter has gone out to parents, regarding planting. This is just a reminder. Students will be working in the dirt and soil. They should wear comfortable non-uniform clothing. If you wish, you may also send a change of clothes.

This event is open to the public. CIS families are invited to attend, and if you know someone who might be interested in bringing their children, you are welcome to invite them. 

Sports Day for Upper Primary (Years 3-6) 

When: June 9, from 10:00 – 12:00 

Where: CIS campus, outside 

What: A scavenger hunt with clues, activities, and puzzle pieces. Students will participate on House Teams.

Cambridge Mile 2023 – Friday, May 26 

8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Meshchersky Park. 

This annual family festival dedicated to running, international friendship and community is organized by our school. The event includes not only 1 and 2-mile races, but various fun activities, a football tournament, family competitions, a show, and an open-air plov party! It's lots of fun, ask the ones who participated last year.

Last week was a short but active week. I was delighted to see so many families coming back from break on time, energized, and ready to end the year on a high note.
Прошедшая неделя выдалась короткой, но активной. Я c радостью наблюдал,  как много семей вернулись с каникул вовремя, полные энергии и готовые закончить год на высокой ноте.

Most of the IGCSE and A-Level exams are almost over, which is a reason for relief and celebration for many students. Now we swiftly enter the assessment period for Years 7 through 10. I wish our students luck in their efforts.

To celebrate Earh Day, our students will be planting a garden here at CIS. The flowers planted will be the same color as their houses. Students will bring the plants from home. Thank you for your support in celebrating this Day!

As we wrap up term 4, classes have been completing projects and portfolio examinations. The year 11 and 12 English classes have finished their portfolio English papers and concluded some of the key concepts of the IGCSE and AS curriculum. The year 10 English class has looked at narrative writing while paying close attention to plot development and how this affects the experience of a reader. The year 9 Geography class started their project on the Middle East by choosing a certain location to perform research on. The year 10 Global Perspectives class finished their term project while paying close attention to collaboration and personal evaluations. This required a strong sense of awareness within research-based group work.

Mr. Sickles (Science)

The Year 10 team has been looking at the structure, uses of and tests for different biological molecules. The emphasis now is on enzyme activity, how they work and what factors affect their activity.  Year 11 has been working on revision for the upcoming exams, with the focus on the practical skills tested on Paper 6.  Both the AS and A Level Biology groups have been busy finishing up a few things with the final topics while also using previous exams to find weak areas to focus on in preparation for the exams coming after the holiday break.

Mr. Lyons (Mathematics, Science, Physics)

As we wrap up the term, each class has been working primarily on topic reviews and revision.

Year 7 have been looking back at some of the topics from the year and producing presentations to demonstrate their knowledge. They will continue to do this through the final term as we ensure no stone is left unturned. In mathematics, year 7 are ploughing through tables and charts as we look at the various ways to display and interpret data.

Year 8 have completed their statistics topic and used the final week for some diagnostics and assessment with some very pleasing results.

Year 9 were given a special assignment – to research and present how mathematics is important to a chosen occupation. The level of professionalism displayed throughout the presentations was surprisingly excellent!

Year 12 Physics has been all about practice, practice and more practice as we prepare for the AS Level exams in May. With all learning under the belt, we should see good results.

Mr. Claassen (Science)

The last month in science class has been a busy one! We have been learning about light, energy transfers in chemistry, and exam revision.

Year 8 – Light:

Light is a form of energy that travels in waves. It is all around us, and we use it to see the world around us. We learned about how light travels, how shadows are formed, how we see objects, how reflections form, how light bends at the boundary between air and glass or air and water, how white light spreads out into many colors, how two or more colors of light mix together, and how objects absorb and reflect colored light.

We also learned about the different types of light, including visible light, ultraviolet light, infrared light, and X-rays. We learned about how each type of light has a different wavelength, and how this affects how we see it.

Year 9 - Energy transfers in chemistry:

In chemistry, energy transfers are important in many different reactions. We learned about the different types of energy transfers, including exothermic and endothermic reactions. We also learned about the different ways that energy can be transferred, such as through heat, light, or electricity.

We also learned about the different types of chemical reactions, including combustion reactions, decomposition reactions, and combination reactions. We learned about how each type of reaction releases or absorbs energy.

Year 12 and 13 - Exam revision:

As we get closer to the end of the year, we are starting to focus on exam revision. We have been reviewing all of the material that we have learned this year, and we are starting to practice answering exam questions.

We are also learning about the different types of questions that can be asked on the exam, and how to answer them effectively. We are confident that we are well prepared for the exam, and we are excited to see what we can achieve!

We have learned a lot in the last month, and we are excited to continue learning more about science in the future.

Ms. Irina (Mathematics – Russian Program)

Последние дни перед каникулами связаны с аттестацией по российской программе, на этой неделе ребята аттестовались по геометрии. Но расслабляться некогда, впереди новые темы, новый уровень освоения, олимпиады и конкурсы. Ребята из yr12 добрались до логарифмов, которые оказались совсем несложными, а yr9 – до формул сокращённого умножения с квадратами, а ещё их ждут кубы. Так и движемся: от простого к сложному, от маленького к большому.

Mr. Bethell (English and Literature)

Greetings CIS community and hope you had a fruitful and relaxing break!  It feels like summer is here already but there is still much to do in our English classes!

Our year 7 group wrapped up their unit on Frankenstein just before the holiday and are now embarking on a new short story unit that will expose them to works of short fiction from all over the globe.  Their final Frankenstein task was to produce an “alternative” book cover complete with a book summary, review, and revised title.  Look what Uliana managed to produce!

The year 8 class are finishing the Greek mythology unit with a focus on Greek / Latin prefixes and roots.  Familiarity with these will prove incredibly useful for working out unfamiliar language in any linguistic context.

The year 9 group are continuing to experiment with different poetic forms – after practice with more restrictive forms such as haiku, limerick, and the sonnet (yes, our students each produced original sonnets!) we have now shifted to the more modern ‘free verse’ genre.  I look forward to seeing what they produce.

Year 10 have the immense but exciting challenge of starting William Shakespeare’s harrowing but masterful tragedy Othello this week.  This unit will include some exciting collaboration with the year 11 GCSE group who are also examining this powerful play.  Our students will be speaking Elizabethan English at home in no time!

Mr. Kenny (EAL)

A very warm welcome from EAL! So with a whirlwind end to the previous semester, we turn our newly-warmed (thank goodness) attentions to this one in a bid to close this academic year out with a flurry.

Year 7 have been making superb progress with their consistent use of past forms, so we have decided to start working on incorporating present perfect into our arsenals.

In year 8 we have sadly said our goodbyes to George, and we wish him the best of luck in his journey of learning Spanish! We have also welcomed Polina into our ranks, and have started her process by jumping into unreal conditionals.

As for year 9, we still have an incomplete roster thus far. We have, therefore, been running some creative projects for our earliest returnees, and will set more concrete academic goals upon the remainder’s return.

One of our year 12 students has set herself a stylish goal already- to produce an interview or review in the world of fashion! This will hopefully get published in Mr.Bethell and Mr.Lopez’ school publication; watch this space!

Overall, everyone is delighted to see each other again, and we’re all determined to end the year on a strong note.

Ms. Natalia (Russian Language and Literature – Russian program)

Учащиеся year 13 вышли на финишную прямую : ЕГЭ по русскому языку уже через две недели, поэтому сейчас они активно решают тестовые экзаменационные задания.

Старшеклассники year 12 на уроках литературы изучают творчество русского классика А.П.Чехова, драматурга и непревзойденного гения малого жанра.

Ребята из year11 также активно готовятся к прохождению итоговой аттестации по русскому языку за курс 9-летней средней школы. На экзамене им предстоит написать две небольшие работы и решить тест. Сейчас на уроках учащиеся оттачивают мастерство в написании аудиоизложения: надо записать текст по памяти после прослушивания.

Mr. Ruslan (Russian Language and Literature – Russian Program)

Ребята из Year 7 продолжают изучать правила орфографии раздела «Имя существительное». На уроках литературы мы продолжаем изучение зарубежной литературы.

В Year 8 мы продолжаем изучать наречие как часть речи. На уроках литературы написали сочинение по произведениям В. П. Астафьева и В. Г. Распутина. Прочитали произведение В. М. Шукшина «Критики».

В Year 9 мы закончили анализ произведения А. П. Платонова «В прекрасном и яростном мире». Начали изучение лирики Бориса Пастернака.

В Year 10 мы написали контрольный диктант по теме: «Обособленные определения» и приступили к разделу «Обособленные обстоятельства». На уроках литературы прочитали рассказ «Неудачница» и изучили лирику поэтов Русского Зарубежья.

Mr. Vladimir (Geography – Russian Program)

С ребятами из Year 7 мы окунулись в мир горных пород и минералов и выполнили практическую работу на тему: ‘’Минералы и горные породы”. Узнали, что такое горные породы и минералы, их виды и классификации. Ребята изучили коллекцию горных пород и узнали, какими свойствами они обладают и для чего применяются. Впереди, по программе, нас ждет изучение оболочек нашей планеты.

С ребятами из Year 8 мы изучили тему: “Почвы”, она интересна тем, что находится на стыке всех трех оболочек. На данный момент мы перешли к темам: “Природный комплекс” и “Природные зоны”. Ребятам важно узнать, в чем разница между природными зонами и от чего зависит процесс их формирования.

Year 9 на данный момент продолжают комплексное изучение материков. Мы уже изучили Австралию, Северную Америку, Антарктиду, Африку, Южную Америку, а на данный момент изучаем Евразию. Под комплексной работой я подразумеваю следующее: изучение истории развития материка, истории изучения материка, рельеф, полезные ископаемые, водные объекты, климат и многое-многое другое. Евразия — это завершающая тема по курсу географии 7 класса.

С Year 10 мы продолжаем изучение географических районов нашей страны. Изучили арктическую и центральную часть нашей страны, район Кавказа и Уральских гор. На данном этапе изучаем природу Западную Сибирь и Восточную Сибирь.

С ребятами из Year 11 мы продолжаем изучать экономико-географические районы РФ и прошли такие темы как: “Европейский Северо-Запад”, “Центральная Россия”, “Европейский Юг”, “Поволжье”, “Урал”, “Западную Сибирь” и “Восточную Сибирь”. На прошлом уроке начали проходить тему: “Дальний Восток”. В рамках этих тем мы изучаем ресурсы, экономику и основные достопримечательности регионов России.

С ребятами из Year 12 мы изучаем такие темы как: “Международные экономические отношения” и “Глобальные проблемы и стратегию устойчивого развития”, в рамках тем мы изучаем международные организации и страны, которые в них входят, а также глобальные проблемы современности и пути их решения.

С Year 13 мы успешно закончили изучать экономики таких материков, как Ю. Америка и Африка, Австралия, отдельных стран Евразии, стран Океании, также близко познакомились с географическим положением, населением, структурой экономики и даже историей этих материков и стран. На данный момент мы перешли к изучению нашей страны и ее положения в мировой экономике.

I want to begin by thanking you for your active involvement in the Art Auction. Thanks to the CIS community, we raised 300.000 rubles, out of which 10% will go the artist and 90% to the 3,14 Charity Fund, who help children in urgent medical need.

We continue our second week of Cambridge examinations for Years 11, 12, and 13. I want to remind you that exams will not be rescheduled, so please make sure that your child does not miss school.

Mr. Carlos (Spanish)

The last week, the students have been reviewing the content for the end-of-term tests. Y7 have been practicing how to talk about their physical appearance and the environment in which they live, using the verbs "to have", the grammatical concordance between nouns and adjectives, etc.

Y8 has reviewed the vocabulary about plans for the weekend, clothes and preparations, practicing gender and number concordance, and contrasting tenses (present, past, future).

Y9 has practiced the contents related to human rights, the use of the verb “to be able” and the comparative forms. They have been talking about journeys to school, environmental issues or raising money for charity.

Y10 has been practicing the comparative and superlative forms in relation to family and friends.

Y11 and Y12 have been practicing for the IGCSE and AS level tests.

Finally, we have had the corresponding end-of-term tests.

Mr. Kennedy (Business, Geography, Global Perspectives)

Greetings! Exams are underway and students are performing well. A kind reminder that students should be getting enough sleep as recall becomes challenging without it.

The vending machine has arrived! It will be operational from next week. Remember, there is a 50/50 profit split between a charity and the students from this machine. We will start a business club which will be open to all secondary students from term 5. This club will be responsible for running the vending machine business, and all other business activities that students are involved in.

Hello all: nearly there!

It’s been a tough, but productive year, and the year 11s, 12s, and 13s can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Portfolio work has been underway for some weeks, and this is the culmination of all their efforts; I’m confident that all my hardworking students’ work will pay off, and they’ll reap the reward for their efforts.

The year 10s are likewise showing great promise: they’ve been practicing answering GCSE paper questions, and are looking to move on to a fascinating new topic.

KS3 – years 7-9 – are producing wonderful, creative work, and the year 7s are enjoying learning about the Black Death.

These last weeks Year 10 have been developing their skills in Geometry, working with inscribed angles and shapes in circles. Years 11, 12, and 13 are preparing for their exams. This is the last sprint! Good luck!

Ms. Victoria (ICT and Computer Science)

For the last two weeks, secondary school students have been coding to solve mathematical problems where it is necessary to apply several formulas and solutions. Also they have been learning what bugs (mistakes) programmers usually make and learn to debug (look for errors) their own code.

В течение последних двух недель учащиеся средней школы создают программы для решения математических задач, где необходимо применить несколько формул и решений. Также они изучают, какие "баги" (ошибки) обычно делают программисты и учатся отлаживать свой собственный код (искать в программе ошибки) .

Mr. Aleksandr (Russian Program)

Аттестация для школ-партнёров в самом разгаре: и онлайн тесты для старшей школы, и бумажные контрольные работы для младшей и средней школы. Необходимо отчитаться по каждому предмету, чем учителя и ученики активно занимаются с начала апреля. Последний день аттестации - 28 апреля для начальной школы и 29 апреля для средней и старшей школы.

Важно помнить, что в субботу, 29 апреля, занятия будут проходить по обычному расписанию, к тому же наш повар, мистер Александр Наумов, подготовит сюрприз для всех учеников, пришедших на занятия в этот день.

Прошедшая неделя позволила многим ученикам на практике применить свои знания по биологии: от решения генетических задач и поиска на территории школы растений, принадлежащих к разным отделам, до проверки работы вестибулярного аппарата при помощи различных практических тестов.

Dear parents, thank you very much for the support of the Art Auction, for the interest in each work of young artists, for the fact that each work has found its home. Knowing that your creativity is needed and liked is probably one of the main facts for a successful move forward.

In class, we study the history of mosaics and create our own. We got acquainted with the mosaics of ancient Greece, Rome and Byzantium.

Students in Primary and Secondary voted for the top five entries. We had one two-person entry and a few tied places.
